The Hero will not be automatic
The Hero will not anticipate the situation
in which heroics are needed
there will be no predetermined station
at which the hero stands, waiting
The Hero will not be pragmatic
will not know the need until
it arises, sudden
unbidden, quite against the will
of the self, and all those around
The Hero will not be emblematic
but forged in the flames of tribulation,
as a force of nature,
perhaps under threat of damnation,
filled with intense fear.
The Hero will not be ecstatic,
coming to be after a fight uphill
only with work and inner strength,
determination, like a bitter pill.
Reluctance, sorrow, and resolution.
Only this will break the static
For our Hero will not be automatic.
